Job Description

Médecins sans Frontières is a medical and humanitarian organisation that provides assistance to population in distress, victims of natural and man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions.

Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Regular translation between expatriate, English-speaking medical staff and Khmer clients with good understanding of medical terminology
  • Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people.
  • Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter and will record the minute.
  • Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
  • Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
  • Translate MSF internal / external and operational documents into local language.
  • Capacity to translate Khmer document in English, in order to facilitate communication/comprehension at operational level.
  • Keep record of all translated documents.
  • Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF
  • Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor degree of English literature essential, knowledge of medical terms preferable
  • Experience with previous medical NGO desirable
  • Essential, bilingual in both mission language and local languages and/or dialects
  • Commitment, Flexibility, Stress Management, Team work, Result, service and Capacity building to understand operational view/change and to adapt accordingly
